The view
of the
back of
the
house
where
the new
living
space is
going to
be
added.
The
owners
wanted
to add a
guest
suite
for
their
adult
children
and
their
families
when
they
visited
them.
Situated
at the
back of
the
house
and away
from the
main
traffic
it was
an ideal
place
with a
beautiful
view of
the
hilly
backyard
full of
trees
and
vegetation.
|
 |
|
The natural
terrain is
very hilly,
steep and
sloping
rather
dramatically
from the
street level
toward the
back of the
house, the
location of
new
addition. |
 |
|
Therefore
the
foundation
will have to
be quite
deep to
insure the
integrity of
the future
structure.
The closer
to the
existing
wall of the
house, the
deeper the
foundation |
 |
|
There is no
way from the
street to
get to the
back of the
house with
any
mechanical
vehicle.
Thick
vegetation,
hilly
terrain and
narrow paths
prevented
the use of
bobcat for
foundation
work and
required the
use of
concrete
pump truck |
 |
|
With both
pump truck
and concrete
mixer truck
next to each
other there
was hardly
room to
allow normal
traffic on
the street.
We had to
really crank
up |
 |
|
Putting
concrete
hose pieces
together
from the
concrete
truck to the
back of the
house. |
 |
|
Coming down
the side of
the house
with narrow,
steep,
flagstone
step |
 |
|
Finally the
concrete mix is
coming out
filling
foundation
trough |
 |
|
Future
crawlspace
is tall
enough and
will serve
as storage
space |
 |
|
The brick
veneer wall
is up
matching the
existing
brick on the
house and
the new
floor is
getting
level. |
 |
|
The red beam
at top is
used as a
support for
existing
upper level |
 |
|
We were
lucky to
have the
tarp up on
the new
structure.
The next 3
days we got
the worst
rain pour of
the year |
 |
|
The house in
the back
drops in
excess of
over 12
feet from
the street
level. The
new bath,
located
below sewer
level,
required
sewer
ejection
pump with
adequate
access and
had to be
properly
insulated
and
ventilated |
 |
|
Drywall is
up |
 |
|
Notice

The new

The only
thing
missing
is to
add an

where it
meets
