Bathroom Remodeling Project 1
 |
|
As you
know,
bath and
kitchen
projects
can reek
havoc on
existing
interior
surfaces.
The
following
3
pictures
show the
methods
designed
to
minimize
the
spread
of dust
and
damage
to
interior
surfaces.
Property
protection
steps
include
taping
openings
and
using
plastics
and
zippers
to allow
passage
through.
Forced
heat
vents
get also
covered
to
prevent
fine
dusts
from
entering
the
ducts.

This
particular
project
involved
remodeling
2
existing
baths at
the same
time.
The top,
upper
hall
bath,
was
located
right
above
the
other
bath on
the main
level
floor.
The
picture
shows
protection
to
existing
steps
leading
to upper
hall
bath.
1/4"
plywood
was cut
to size
of steps
and
covered
with
thick
carton
paper

Upper level
hall with
entrance
doors to
respective
bedrooms.
Each door
was equipped
with zipper
to minimize
dust
dissemination
to adjacent
areas. |
 |
|
The old
shower with
decorative
soffit.
Luckily we
were able to
remove the
soffit and
gained
valuable
headroom.
We also
carved a
section of
hall closet
and thus
enlarged the
bath. |

The old
vanity
before
"gutting" |
 |
|
Old
galvanized,
drain pipes
will be
replaced |
 |
|
New drains
and copper
supply
lines. Note
the big box
in the
floor. It is
a
fan/heat/light
unit for the
bathroom
below. It is
vented to
the outside
through the
sidewall
which is
brick |
 |
|
The old tub
is being
changed into
shower.
Sloping the
floor toward
the drain is
achieved by
the use of
prefabricated
rigid
material
called "ProSlopes".
It will
insure that
the new
waterproof
membrane
will carry
any residue
moisture
straight
toward the
drain
preventing
possible
mold
formation |
 |
|
The
waterproof
membrane on
the floor
act in
conjunction
with
waterproof
sheeting on
the walls
forming a
complete
shower
waterproof
system. The
waterproof
components
are made of
polyethylene |

prefabricated
semi
circular dam
corner to
eliminate a
weak link

Laminating
walls with
waterproof,
polyethylene
membrane.
It comes in
two colors.
We ran out
of the
material and
couldn't get
it in
original
color thus
two
different
colors |

New shower
with green
glass tile
looks quite
spectacular. |

Shower
assembly

The door,
initially
made to open
both ways
was fitted
with an
additional gasket
that made it
to open
outwards
only. |

The shelving/cabinet
unit on the
right used
to be a
section of
hallway
closet |
