Deck Repair Project
 |
|
This is deck
that dates
to 1970. The
decking
boards are
cedar. The
deck itself
has a lot
rotting
problems. We
were the 4th
contractor
looking at
the deck and
willing to
repair it
rather than
build a new
one |
 |
|
The joist
(beam) along
closest to
the sliding
door showing
extensive
rot and
deterioration |
 |
|
The biggest
problem was
outer rim
board to
which one
piece welded
metal
railing was
attached.
The damage
was too
severe and
had to be
replaced |
 |
|
Metal
spindles
attached to
the outer
board |
 |
|
Support
structure
consisting
of several
posts was
required to
replace the
board |
 |
|
New,
engineered
wood beam
set in place |
 |
|
New board
attached to
railing and
new steps |
 |
|
The top of
joists/beams
were covered
with pieces
of
waterproofing
membrane
that didn't
allow water
penetration
around nail
insertions.
The metal
flashing
extending
past the
beams and
additionally
protecting
the top edge
of beams,
most
vulnerable
to wood
damage |
 |
|
New
composite,
low
maintenance decking
is being
installed.
It was one
of the first
composite
products on
the market
at the time,
around
beginning of
new century. |
